What Is The Procedure Process For Dental Implants In Mesa, AZ?

A dental implant procedure process involves several steps. The exact steps and timeline may vary depending on each patient’s individual case, but there is a general procedure process when people come in to get treated with dental implants. The following is what happens during a dental implant procedure process:

Initial Assessment And Planning:

The dental professional will first conduct a thorough examination of the patient’s oral health, including the condition of their jawbone and surrounding teeth. CT scans will also be taken of the patient’s oral structures so a customized treatment plan can be designed for the patient’s new smile.

Tooth Extractions (If Needed):

When people have severely damaged or decayed teeth, they will need to be extracted before their dental implants are placed. This is done under sedation dentistry to ensure the patient’s comfort.

Bone Grafting (If Needed):

If the jawbone lacks adequate thickness or density to support a dental implant, a bone grafting procedure may be required before the patient’s dental implants can be placed. A bone grafting procedure involves the trained dental professional adding bone graft material to the patient’s jawbone to strengthen it so that it provides a stable foundation for dental implants. Bone grafting is also performed under sedation dentistry.

Placing Dental Implants:

After the patient is administered sedation dentistry, the dental professional strategically places the dental implant post(s) into the patient’s jawbone. The dental implant post is a small titanium screw that is designed to act like a natural tooth root.

Healing And Osseointegration:

After the dental implant post and abutment are accurately placed in the patient’s jawbone, the patient’s jawbone will fuse, in a natural process called osseointegration, with the dental implant post. The area of the jawbone where the dental implant post is placed can take up to several months to heal, during which time the patient will be provided with a temporary prosthesis.

Abutment Placement:

When the site of the dental implant post has healed, the abutment is then placed on the dental implant post. The abutment is what attaches the dental implant post to the prosthesis.

Dental Prosthesis Placement:

Once the abutment is in place, the custom-designed and made dental prosthesis is attached to the abutment. The prosthesis is designed to match the patient’s natural teeth in its color, shape, and function. Before the site of the dental implant placement has fully healed, the patient can have a temporary prosthesis placed. After the site of the dental implant placement has healed, the final prosthesis can be placed and bonded onto the dental implant.
